$315/335 + $20 materials fee paid to instructor

This course is intended to introduce students to notable assemblage artists and methods of creating an assemblage with found objects. We will be taking inspiration from Joseph Cornell and Betye Saar. We will cover each of these artists, creating individual assemblage pieces in the style of the covered artist. Students will be provided with basic materials for assembling works and recycled materials, but they will also be encouraged to bring their own found objects and materials meaningful to them to create their work.

While classes are meant to be informative and productive with lecture and studio time, time will be dedicated at the end of the class for group critique and discussion. This is intended to encourage more conceptual work and develop the personal meaning to the artwork being created.

Students of all experience levels and backgrounds are encouraged to enroll.

Materials: Materials will be provided with the materials fee.

Max students: 12
