Jazz, Chamber, New Music & Acoustics
The jazz summer series opens with a special celebration of Juneteenth featuring Brian Blade & The Fellowship Band. One of the world’s leading jazz drummers, Blade brings Jon Cowherd on piano, Melvin Butler on tenor and soprano saxophone, Myron Walden on alto saxophone and bass clarinet, and Roland Guerin on bass, for their first local appearance. The series continues with another all-star band, the Chris Potter Trio, featuring Potter on tenor sax, Matt Brewer on bass, and Kendrick Scott on drums. Grammy-nominated Potter has emerged as a leading light of his generation. His music showcases limitless creativity and a vibrant sense of swing.

Art History, Music & Architecture Lectures
In June, bringing innovative research, fresh perspective, and dynamic challenges to the historical status quo, musicologist Dr. Charissa Noble will present a special lecture series, On the Edge: Radical Art and Music Scenes of Early 20th Century California. Also, join us for an artist talk by exhibiting artist Marisa Takal. She will share a special presentation of her career, process, recent projects, and Athenaeum exhibition, Unconscious Research, which features paintings and sculpture in which Takal explores exterior and interior expressions of the self.
