The Japanese stab binding is beautiful and elegant as well as practical. It is a great binding method for journals, photo albums, keep-safe books, or a blank sketchbook. You will leave class with a finished book. It will have hard covers—created using book board, book cloth, and decorative papers—and acid-free pages, making it suitable for a sketchbook or daybook.
Materials: Cutting knife; stylus (for scoring); sharp pencils and a good eraser (Pink Pearl is good); glue (PVA and brush or small roller); 12” ruler; awl; scissors.
Optional but recommended: bench hook with cutting mat (9” x 12” cutting-mat size is ideal); bone folder. Additional materials will be provided to create the book. If you have pages with content that you would like to bind, we can communicate about the size via email prior to the day of class.
Immediately after you register, look for a confirmation email and receipt. In the week preceding the class start date, you will receive another email with more details.
These classes will be held in compliance with State of California and County of San Diego health regulations as applicable at the time of each class. The safety of our students, faculty, and staff continues to be our highest priority.
